Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE)

KKF, with support from the JSW Foundation, is in the process of converting 50 selected Anganwadi Centres (AWCs)—30 in Barbil and 20 in Paradeep—into ISO-certified Model Anganwadis. This initiative will begin with comprehensive infrastructure upgrades, both interior and exterior, to create a stimulating and child-friendly learning environment that encourages greater participation from children and their parents in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE).

Following the infrastructure development, KKF will implement a series of soft interventions focusing on behaviour change, training, and capacity-building initiatives. These will include:

  • Primary research and stakeholder analysis
  • Resource assessment in existing AWCs
  • Skills gap analysis of Anganwadi workers (AWWs) and helpers
  • Contextualization of a play-based curriculum tailored to local needs
  • Design and execution of community engagement programs in consultation with stakeholders
  • Capacity-building programs for AWC supervisors, workers, and helpers
  • Skill mapping of children attending Anganwadis
  • Development of print-rich, learner-friendly environments
  • Regular implementation of play-based preschool activities
  • Organization of an annual ECCE Mela in each AWC

These interventions aim to foster strong community relationships and promote a holistic approach to early childhood development. The ultimate goal is to achieve full ISO certification for all 50 Model Anganwadis by meeting both infrastructure (hardware) and programmatic (soft skill) benchmarks.
